Lake District World Heritage Bid

In a showcase piece of work, the PBRS area-based method has been applied in a bid for UNESCO World Heritage Site status for the Lake District National Park: illustrating the cultural heritage value of the landscape, and helping to assess the area against a number of strict UNESCO criteria.

The PBRS allowed the bidding team to produce an overall picture of the region's many different layers of landscape significance and opportunity, from the topography of Windermere, to the cultural traditions of Grasmere, and the social needs of the rural farming population.

A powerful three-dimensional mapping tool was developed alongside the PBRS analysis - providing a strong visualisation of the depth of cultural heritage value across the National Park area.
