My wish list for the new year include:

•    News about funding commitments for biomass will be positive and create opportunities for developing the supply chain in the North West.

•    Work with the partners to continue the promotion of biomass fuel as a viable alternative to fossil fuels in the light of carbon saving and climate change concerns.

•    Promote and encourage the uptake of national funding schemes in the region to ensure that we have good examples and demonstration sites with which to influence decision makers.

Update from AA5 – climate change and energy

A really positive year for this action area, with our activity focused around awareness raising and setting the scene for further developments over the next couple of years.  Mid way through the year, the Biomass Contacts Group released our Biomass Woodfuel Strategy, which is a really comprehensive review of the sector, and which sets some quite challenging targets for us all to aim for.  Copies of this report available on the main iwood site.  This, alongside a Local Authority-targeted biomass conference in Dec 06 (organised by CFNW) and the procurement of a £30k DTI fund by Envirolink Northwest has set us on the right path to delivery in this action area.  Looking forward to next year!
